To All ARES Groups,

Provincial Association Introduction

We would like to introduce you to an ARES initiative that has been under development to address a number of challenges faced in the advancement of our ARES Ontario Section program and the expanding role of providing Municipal Emergency Communications.

Liability Insurance

Radio Amateurs of Canada had to find a new carrier to provide the coverage for their RAC Members Liability Insurance Program. One of the requirements the new insurance provider has stipulated was that membership was also required in an incorporated amateur radio club that participates in the RAC Affiliated Club Program.

This stipulation presented a challenge to many ARES Groups that are not associated with an Amateur Radio Club and also the fact that many Amateur Radio Clubs are not incorporated.

The Ontario Section Emergency Coordinator seeing a need for a solution to this developing problem to the growth of the ARES program formed a small working group comprising of the ASEC, some DEC’s and EC’s to address this issue.

The working group decided that it was in the best interests of the ARES program in Ontario to establish a Province-wide non-profit incorporated Amateur Radio Club.

We are pleased to announce that this project in now complete and would like to introduce you to the RAC affiliated non-profit incorporated club “Emergency Communications Ontario Association Inc.”

The ECOA (Emergency Communications Ontario Association) is now accepting membership in the following format;

-         Individual Membership: $15.00

-         ARES Group Membership $25.00 registration fee, $1.00 for each RAC Member and $12.00 for each Non-RAC member
